In One Sentence: So darn cute!
Amazon Description: When the carnival comes to METROPOLIS, BEPPO THE SUPER-MONKEY isn't far behind. This CHIMP OF STEEL can't wait to chow down on chocolate-covered bananas and other fair foods. Unfortunately, the world's evilest ape, GORILLA GRODD, has other plans. He wants to turn this festival of fun into a day of destruction. With a little help from the WONDER TWINS and their space chimp, GLEEK, BEPPO must somehow stop GRODD'S midway monkey madness.
Both Tommy and I loved this book. I grew up on comics (it's actually how my older brother taught me to read) so I'm very excited to introduce them to my children. And this does just that.
The story was cute and described just enough to keep a 4YO's attention. Even though cartoons were on, Tommy was completely focused on Beppo and Grodd's battle. It didn't take long for Tommy to decide which Super-Pet he wanted to be (Gleek). It was just the right length at around thirty pages and the illustrations are colorful and eye-popping. Tommy especially enjoyed the onomatopoeias (don't you just love that word). WHOOSH, BAM!BAM!BAM!, etc...
The adorable added sections were my favorite part, though. There are a few jokes and a list of the other Super-Pets and Villain-Pets. Also, there's a small definition list which is always helpful for parents. Kids are constantly asking, "What does that word mean?" and a lot of the time it's hard to come up with a simple, concise definition.
When asked what it was that he specifically liked about this book, Tommy said, "Spacicically, I liked everything! Uh, can we read it?" If that isn't a ringing endorsement, I don't know what is. I plan on buying the rest in the series for Tommy's birthday. Shhhh, don't tell him...
Bottom Line: Your little boy will love this and it just might introduce him to a whole other world of literature.

"Onomatopoeia" is one of my favorite words ever. Also, your son sounds adorable (and I don't mean that in a creeper sort of way, either :P).
ReplyDeleteNice review! :D
